On procrastinating
Mar. 19th, 2026 11:43 amSo a side effect I didn't predict (though I really should've) about getting a DW (which is turning out to be fun!! I'm still struggling but it's fun!) and Tumblr not imploding, is that now I have an extra place to procrastinate on when I should be doing stuff (like writing)

Date: 2026-03-19 12:15 pm (UTC)I only get on tumblr now and then, saw that the mobile app was updated so things looked a bit different--was that the cause of the latest meltdown or was there a major change of service/rules?

Date: 2026-03-19 12:26 pm (UTC)So to summarize what happened on March 16th they rolled out a surprise update that completely changed how the reblog system work, essentially if you made an original post but someone else reblogged it and added a comment or a reaction image or anything the person reblogging would be getting the notifications instead of you (which as you can imagine is a terrible thing for writers and artists), they also split off the notes system into branches which made it super difficult to keep track of what was going on (for example a post with a total of 500 notes could look to one person as if it had only 10 and they could only access those ten).
They did backtrack about a day later (after a lot of yelling and complaining for users, lots of support tickets being filed, the update being buggy as all hell, and an article about it being published), so things are more or less back to normal but... Well they have said they still want to make changes re:how reblogs and the like work, and there have been two outages relatively recently, so I'm still being very cautious and slowly archiving my stuff.
On the brightside this place is fun and people all seem very nice (even if I'm still very bad at figuring out how I'm supposed to find people, I'm stumbling around mostly) so I'm glad I'm here!! So even if Tumblr doesn't end up dying I'll likely stick around here as well!
